BharatGen to Launch 17B-Parameter Sovereign Multilingual AI Model at India AI Impact Summit 2026

BharatGen, India’s premier sovereign AI initiative, proudly announces the landmark launch of BharatGen Param2 17 billion parameter model that supports 22 Indian languages. This multilingual Mixture of Experts (MoE) foundational model is built from ground up by BharatGen and represents a pivotal moment in India’s vision for AI self-reliance. The model will officially go live at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

The launch of Param2 17B is more than a technical milestone; it is the cornerstone of a mission to build India-first AI supporting 22 Indian languages and trained extensively on Indian data. By optimizing for multiple Indic languages, BharatGen is ensuring that the future of intelligence is inclusive, accessible, and inherently Indian.

These models are designed to serve critical use cases across core verticals, including enterprise, governance, education, healthcare, and agriculture solutions, thereby accelerating AI adoption across the country.

At the summit, BharatGen will showcase sector-focused demonstrations developed with government and industry partners.

Governance

MahaGPT, built with MITRA, Government of Maharashtra will be a flagship solution in public services to increase government efficiency and accuracy for complex urban development and revenue departments.

Cultural preservation and access

Gyan Bharatam, Ministry of Culture knowledge digitization initiative: Providing an AI-powered OCR for reading and digitizing ancient documents, combined with conversational AI scalable across 22 Indian languages and will be scaled up to 50 crore digitized manuscripts archive.

An AI-powered policy explainer for a leading insurance company: AI assistant that explains complex insurance policies in a personalized, question-and-answer format, in the customer’s preferred language;

Underwriting Copilot: AI copilot for high-volume underwriting that enables faster risk stratification and fraud detection.

International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA): An AI conversational bot to provide an interactive AI interface that transforms static regulatory manuals into a dynamic “digital conversation,” allowing international investors to navigate India’s market regulations.

Supported under the IndiaAI Mission, BharatGen has received government-backed high-performance computing infrastructure and is advancing large-scale mixture-of-experts models that support reasoning, math and code. At the summit, BharatGen will present its Sovereign Multilingual AI models across text, speech, and vision — powered by Bharat Data Sagar, a large, research-led data repository built through extensive data creation and curation efforts across trusted public and private sources.
