The Union Budget 2026-27, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2026, marks a pivotal shift in India’s infrastructure paradigm. With a record public capital expenditure (capex) allocation of ₹12.2 lakh crore—representing approximately 4.4% of GDP and an increase from ₹11.2 lakh crore in the previous year’s budget estimate—the budget emphasizes technology-driven, precision-based execution over traditional physical asset focus alone.
